Early Childhood Music

The goal of each program offered through
Jefferson @ OSU, beginning with the child’s earliest musical experience, is to awaken and nurture a lasting appreciation of the musical arts, provide a comprehensive sequence of opportunities to recognize and realize inherent talent, and lay the foundation for future musical instruction and a lifetime of music appreciation.

Early childhood classes rely on repetition and familiarity to renew and reinforce the learning experience. They are designed to be repeated for two years to cover all the material.

First Music (Age 13)

Sat morning 11:3012:00
Fee: $170/quarter + materials

Parents and their young children learn the pleasures of sharing musical activities. Rudimentary concepts are introduced in sounds, songs, and movements appropriate for the young voice and developing bone and muscle structure. The simple activities can be used at home between classes to reinforce the learning of sounds, words, shapes, colors and other concepts which are introduced during the classes.

Meeting Music (Age 34)
Exploring Music (Age 4
5)

Age 34: Sat morning 9:3010:10
Age 4
5: Sat morning 10:3011:10
Fee: $170/quarter + materials

At this age, music is learned in an effortless and joyful way. Pitch, melody, rhythm, timbre, meter, dynamics, phrasing, and form are introduced, then developed through movement, songs, games, stories, and dance. Children explore the keyboard and simple percussion instruments, become familiar with the sound and appearance of instruments during MusikMaker visits, and learn to read and write elementary music symbols.
